I removed Norton using the Control Panel. No problems, and if there are remnants somewhere I don't care as long as I don't notice it.

I doubt any app uninstalls cleanly, everything you put on/take of your system leaves something behind, some games are terrible for it,thing is if you just go back to an image of windows you may lose some info/data you need, drawbacks to every method of preserving any system:-using an image file can mean you lose some info that you may need repairing means generally you will never get back to 100%

I understand. It's worth checking the running services afterward to make sure that they've been removed or are not set to start automatically. I have a customer who had used an older version of NIS or NAV and I discovered that a few services, such as LiveUpdate, hadn't been removed and were still starting automatically. It was causing some drag on her old computer. This may not be a problem with the 2009 and later versions, which are better in every way.

I always use the uninstall tool but after that I'll run Auslogics registry cleaner. It finds a batallion of entries.

I am really starting to think that Kees and our member from India are right on the money. This AV may actually be stumbling into what it will take to be a lone contender in the fight of malware. For a lone company to be able to create their own engines and products, that are these good, is really frigging amazing. Avast may be able to see into the future where others cant. Vince, ya done good.:thumb:

Jerry, seems thre may be one of those hidden folders like Kaspersky. After removing Avast, run GMER and you will find the Avast folder for sandboxing is still there. It starts out something like ###

they keep saying this is fixed but it isnt.:thumbd:

It's best to always use Norton Removal tool to uninstall Norton. If you don't, you keep Live update service checking updates for an invisible Norton -_-

You should use it before installing another AV. But if you already have then disabe realtime shield just in case.

Thanks, but I am not noticing any problems so I think I'll just let it go.
