I am trying to help a friend with a Dell Inspiron 531. They had gotten a bogus Anti-Virus and it really messed it up. I got rid of everything but the Boo/Sinowal.F boot sector virus. So I pulled the hard drive and formatted it. I have re-installed Windows. Now I need to be able to get it to the internet. I need the drivers for the mother board. I went to the Dell support site but I haven't figured out how to download the drivers to my computer ,so I can get them on a CD to get them loaded on the Inspiron. Help please.

What Operating System are you using? On another PC download any needed Operating System Service Packs, transfer these Service Packs to the Dell PC and install the Service Packs. These Service Pack updates "may" contain the NIC drivers that you need.

The Op Sys is XP. Cudni, when I try to download the driver I get a box wanting to know if I want to install or not install. I don't want to install on my computer so I click don't install and it is gone. I don't understand.

DBan won't help get him his drivers, he's already wiped Windows and begun the installation process. Now he just needs to learn:
*Where to download the latest drivers for the laptop (follow the hand holding wizard at Dells support site...use either the foolproof service rag, or the make/model selection guide...both are easy peasy)
*How to transfer those downloads to the laptop (USB drive is handy)
*Double click the downloaded files to extract them
*Begin the install process for each driver
1/2 dozen reboots later should be done.

I purchased an inexpensive NIC pci card. Of course it came with its own drivers. Then I was able to get that computer to the internet and downloaded the drivers that were needed. Then I took out my NIC card.
