    I need to create a Windows PE rescue CD with Macrium and I've got a question about WAIK. According to Wikipedia, it was included with Vista, so if I've got Vista should I be able to use the option in Macrium "Use a file already downloaded," and if so, anyone know what's it's called or where it's located so I can browse to it? Many thanks. :)

    I went ahead and downloaded the WAIK iso file and successfully created a Windows PE disk. In the process, it installed WAIK on my system. Can anyone tell me if it's okay to uninstall WAIK once the recovery disk is created? I tried the disk on two other computers without WAIK and they booted fine and recovery worked, so I'm assuming it's okay, but I'd feel better if someone can confirm. Thanks.

    I have no experience with Macrium, but as a general rule, I usually leave the WAIK installed so it's available if I need to create updated media later.

    You can uninstall if you want to save the space. Just save the download so you can reinstall it if needed without having to download it again. The WAIK doesn't need to be installed to use any recovery media created with it.

    Appreciate it MudCrab. That's kinda what I was thinking but wasn't 100% sure. I made two copies of the recovery disk and two copies of the iso download so I should be good to go. :)

    I will leave the WAIK installed on the computer as most of the Macrium Reflect updates are WinPE related. Also, one needs WAIK for other imaging programs, partition programs and/or virus programs to create the WinPE.

    Since Microsoft has once more changed their policies on WinPE, now paid versions no longer come with built in WinPE. So for the paid version of Macrium Reflect purchased after certain date, it no longer will be available with built in WinPE. One has to build WinPE themselves, like the free version of WinPE.

    Though, I don't have my WinPE on CD/DVD, but all my WinPE are on a 4GB USB, which is convenient for updated WinPE.

    Best regards,

    Well i successfully downloaded the Macrium iso of 240mb from the windows 7 forum and thus created a rescue cd and it works marvellously and has never failed.
    It is certainly a far more attractive download than the huge 1.7gb download.

    That ISO is now more than a year old, in this time Macrium Reflect has issued many, many updates, which are not reflected in this ISO.

    @aladdin.
    On the contrary.I dont even have macrium reflect installed on my computer and the version is irrelevant.
    All the imaging and restoring is done from the cd.
