    Hi,

    A few days ago I installed the NOD32 trial. So far apart from a few quirks here and there (mostly involving the interface and settings - thankfully the installer uses a custom setup.xml) I am very impressed.

    Anyway, while browsing I noticed this thread and after a bit of poking I found that the update.ver on the evaluation servers seemed to contain a rather small amount of data:
    Code:
    [HOSTS]
    Other=10@http://u1.eset.com/nod_eval/, 10@http://u2.eset.com/nod_eval/, 10@http://u3.eset.com/nod_eval/, 5@http://u4.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://82.165.250.33/nod_eval/, 1@http://u7.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u8.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u20.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u21.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u22.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u23.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u24.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u25.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u26.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u27.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u28.eset.com/nod_eval/, 20@http://u29.eset.com/nod_eval/

    [Expire]
    ExpireList=expire.rar
    I may be completely wrong, but perhaps this has something to do with the the evaluation servers not sending any new updates.

    Cheers.

    Yup - but as jackm found out above - and this is old news: registered users do come first. Those using an evaluation version are back in line. The way it's supposed to be: serve your paying costumers first.

    that's off-topic for the thread, and probably the forum - and as subjective a statement as possible. If you want 100% protection for ineffective DOS viruses on your windows XP machine, sure, many other AV solutions outperform NOD32 in their "protection" - if you want PRO-ACTIVE HEURISTICS which outperform all-comers on NEW threat behaviour prevention, then NOD32 is your best bet.

    Anyone can design a set of tests to make ANY product come out top - no set of testing done by ANY of the "labs" out there performs any set of tests that adequately detects new in-the-wild threat detection in my opinion... but that's just MY opinion.

    I'd like us all to stop the product sniping and "my product is better than your product" comments in this forum - it's NOT support related, and it's 100% OFF-TOPIC for this forum. Please stick to support issues, and drop the comparisons - it's becoming a little too much like trolling to be useful to anyone.

    It seems updates are working again for evaluation users as well.

    Just out of curiosity I checked update.ver and it contains a lot more data than the version I posted here from the updates that were not working.

    As it should be, however it seemed like something was actually broken, not that it really matters now. :)

    Cheers.
