    Hi,

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro on an eMachines M355. 320GB HDD with 2GB DDR3 RAM.

I just wanted better performance. Will enabling Prefetch and Superfetch provide help in starting apps faster? Also in bootup?

I have read some articles that enabling Superfetch will only provide unnecessary read/write on the hard disk, which can contribute to its wear out and some performance issues. Is it right?

CCleaner has an option to clean 'old prefetch data'. Is it safe?

These are the common apps that I am using:

    Word 2013
    Maxthon Cloud Browser Portable
    uTorrent Portable
    The Sage Dictionary/Thesaurus Portable

When all the above apps are running, of course including ESET NOD32 AV, memory consumption is only at 50%.

    Thanks.

    P.S.:

I could not find prefetch process in local services. But I do find Superfetch process "running". Are they seperate processes in Win 8.1? Or Prefetch has been upgraded to "Superfetch"?
