@BrianK: OK; time to come clean: ;)
You have a bit  of built in redundancy :D

Are you seeing convergence in these apps ?

Flavour of this year so far:
    Paragon
    Storage Craft
    Terabyte.
    DS

Interesting how readily we made the switch from Ghost/Symantec/Acronis.
( although I have been testing the Symantec enterprise Back-up: came as a package for work set-up and it is looking good)

I'm with you in that I think Storage craft are a great all in one; with some seriously well coded built in devices

    BUT

I also like the 'granular' approach of Terabyte, having each utility on CD or (for me) floppies -i might be the only client of my local shoppe who still insists on floppy drives
I seriously regard BING as an all time great utility.
I have no dispute with E-A and his comments re GUI, but have come to regard BING as one of my cornerstone apps.

Now I'm moving to Linux and dabbling with PC-BSD: Terabyte is there.
    Works with VMWare ;)

No experience with Paragon: looked b4 but earlier versions not up to what I wanted.

DS I really liked but by the time I had experience with Terabyte, just no longer required.

    Longboard,

Which is the most reliable image/restore app? I don't know. I've never seen an image fail to create, verify or restore. So I can't claim the TeraByte products are more reliable than other backup apps, but for me they are so much more fun to use. The ability to run imaging and restores from a command line enables a very personal approach. But my fun may be of no interest to others.

I don't want to be aware of the image/verify process. This should run automatically in the background and most software can do this. Similarly, when I restore an image I don't want to sit there clicking through numerous windows or looking for recovery CDs. I prefer clicking a single icon and leaving the computer alone until the process has completed and the new OS has booted.

I know unattended restores may be of little interest to many members. But I get satisfaction from the process and there are several apps that can be used. IFW, IFD, Drive Snapshot, ghost32.exe and the DOS Ghosts.

It's great that we have so many choices of backup software.
