I have DD10. I used it to build the bootable CD. I than used the bootable CD to install OSS. I installed OSS to a 1.4GB partition. No OS is installed on this partition.
When I have a Windows XP CD or a Vista Ultimate DVD in my DVD-Rom drive, I get NO option to boot to it when I am in OSS selector.

I thought v10 of OSS would allow you to boot from a CD. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi freeyayo50,

The answer is very simple. Change the boot order in Computer BIOS to boot to the CD First, if a Floppy Drive second and Hard Drive third.

So when you need to boot to the CD, insert it in the drive, before booting up the computer, or before restarting the computer or shutting down the computer, then rebooting the computer.

In some systems (my ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi, for example), OSS will not detect the DVD drive. In those cases, you can't install or boot a CD/DVD directly from OSS. This makes OS installations more difficult because you have to manually setup the boot options (hidden partitions, active partition, etc.) using DD before installing instead of setting the options in OSS for the CD/DVD install.

That is exactly why I want the CD boot option in OSS. It is a pain in the a** to go through all that. Is this because OSS needs better driver support?

As far as I know, OSS accesses the hardware through the computer's BIOS. On some newer systems, it can't detect the CD/DVD drives. This seems to especially be a problem with the P965/JMicron chipset (in the P5B) and several others.

I don't know if it's a "driver" issue or just that OSS isn't communicating correctly with the BIOS. The problem is not limited to OSS, though.

In any case, DD and OSS need an updated. No new driver support has been added in a long time.

If you have a USB DVD drive, you could try booting with that connected and see if OSS will see it.
