I have concluded that OSS is simply not compatible with running your sata drives in ahci mode..... seems like oss just can't read a drive that is in ahci mode........... If you have the bios set to ahci mode and you install windows, you have to f6 and put in the driver disk .... so it seems like you would have to somehow load the ahci drivers into the oss.

Anyways, unless someone has a simple workaround for this one, I will just run my disk in ide mode..... not that big of a deal.

I have 2 win xp partitions (90gb and 40gb and a 200mb partition for oss) both loaded with win xp sp3 disk. I just installed them, and then i installed DD, then i activated OSS ..... it detects both OS's and everything seems to be fine, however ...... when i launch either win xp installation I get this message ...

    ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt or missing

so my guess is that there is something in a boot.ini file that is not pointing to the correct place. There is a boot.ini file in each os partition, as well as some boot.ini files in the bootwiz folder..... which boot.ini files are being used when i try to boot through the osso_O

Anyone have any ideas on that error message or how to resolve it?

    thanks
    Jason

    Jason,

    Welcome to the forum.

When you installed the XP installations, were they hidden from each other?

Is each XP on a Primary partition that's set Active when that XP boots?

Is the only thing that causes the problem using AHCI mode? In other words, you can switch the BIOS between IDE and AHCI mode and OSS works and both XP installations boot okay in IDE mode and not in AHCI mode.

OSS accesses the drives through the BIOS. However, the different modes can affect whether or not it can find attached drives.

If you contact Acronis Support, they may have an updated build that will correctly support your computer. Live Chat is probably the quickest method.

I installed on primary active partitions with the other ones hidden in ahci mode. OSS would not work, but if i changed bios to ide mode it worked fine.

So then i left bios in ide mode, wiped disk and started all over again ... so that i could just install both xp's in ide mode without any of the ahci drivers.... so i have to partition of xp, and i can hide and set active manually 2 partitons and everything works fine (with oss deactivated) When I activate the oss ... i can select either one of the installs and i just get the ntoskrnl missing error message.

So I am pretty certain that there is something in the bootwiz folder that is pointing to the wrong place.

One thing that is different, on my initial ahci install i installed xp in partition 1 then installed dd10 and oss into partition 3.... then installed 2nd xp in partition 2

This time i installed xp in partition 1, then hid 1 set partition 2 active and installed xp ..... then set part 1 ative and 2 hidden ..... booted into xp 1 and installed dd10 and oss.......

I have the most recent build.

Any ideaso_O Thanks for the help!!!

I had a usb drive plugged in that is what messed it up. I unplugged it and now all works fine.

hmmmm i wonder if i had that plugged in with the ahci install??

is the ahci not working with the oss loader a known issue? It makes sense to me that it would not work since it has no driver to allow it to access a drive running under ahci in the bios.

it just kept saying oss loader not found.

I have write boot record unchecked, and i have the large disk lba thing at the bottom unchecked ...... any thoughts on those?
