    GREAT TIP MAN!!!

I found the hidden PREVX folder containing corrupt data here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Dati applicazioni

After deleting it from my system I was finally able to install PREVX as good old time!!

    YOU ARE A GENIUS!!

Thanks a lot for your precious advice!!

    Smack!!!

Since I'm still having probs with Prevx on one machine, per Joe's advice, I ran the removal tool and then rebooted. I haven't reinstalled v3.0.5.74 fresh yet, but I checked for the files you mentioned and found:

    edgewmi.mof
    wdcfg.csi

I erased them. Looks like the removal tool leaves remnants.

Well, I'm officially done with v3.0.5.74 on one of my computers.

I spent 5 days massaging settings and trying this and uninstalling that, and the end result was that Prevx would not start on that system with any reliability. It was 50-50 at best. I had a BSOD, an error message, an icon that wouldn't load in the tray, sometimes one, sometimes two prevx.exe processes in Task Manager, more uninstalls with removal tools, more installs, countless reboots. I've removed entire programs thinking they may be conflicting, changed settings on the firewall, just a whole bunch of time spent trying to get v3.0.5.74 to launch and scan and run properly.

But removing v3.0.5.74 and going back to a version that I know works... v3.0.1.65... puts it all right again. It's like a trusty old friend. I can't imagine going this route again. I'll drop Prevx if I run into these kind of difficulties with a new build. When 3.0.5.xx is pushed out via auto-update, I don't see me keeping Prevx any longer.

And the crazy part of it is, v3.0.5.74 is doing fine on my other machine. But with v3.0.1.65 on both machines, my days weren't filled with uncertainty as to what was keeping Prevx from running properly. With v3.0.1.65, they ran smooth every day, all the time.

Too much drama for a software, that's how I feel about it. And I wasn't even trying to get SafeOnline working with GeSWall. I disabled it. I am totally writing that off on both computers. I didn't feel I needed SafeOnline before and I'm not convinced that I need it now. So for me, the majority of all this newness from Prevx is about something I don't use.

    Note to Joe:
Your dedication and efforts to assist me via PM have been much appreciated.
I've "let go" of 3.0.1.65 and moved on to 3.0.5.85, and the issues noted previously have not cropped up.
I don't know if the "Improved compatibility with some other security products" in the changelog is referring to either avast! or MBAM, but something sure got better for me, along with the "Fixed a random issue loading the tray icon on XP" change, which I was experiencing too.
    Thanks, Joe. :thumb:
