Poll: Most Americans now oppose the NSA program

By 73%-21%, those who paid attention to the speech say his proposals (The President)
won't make much difference in protecting people's privacy.

Those surveyed now split, 45%-43%, on whether Snowden's disclosures have helped or harmed
    the public interest.

By nearly 3-1, 70%-26%, Americans say they shouldn't have to give up privacy and freedom
in order to be safe from terrorism.

    Nothing surprising here.

With exactly zero to show for it as far as violent terrorism goes.

There shouldn't *be* private data of Americans in a government database, or a rubber stamp 3rd party private holder. The private companies have what they need as far as day to day business requires (Telco/ISP), and with *probable cause*, that's what the government can get.

You see what they're doing here... I do.

Independent review board says NSA phone data program is illegal and should end
    WashingtonPost

An independent executive branch board has concluded that the National Security Agency’s long-running program to collect billions of Americans’ phone records is illegal and should end.

In a strongly worded report to be issued Thursday, the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB) said that the statute upon which the program was based, Section 215 of the USA Patriot Act, “does not provide an adequate basis to support this program.”

It is nice to see an article about email server to email server encryption. A shame that so many email providers, ISPs... and even companies that routinely email sensitive information... don't make the effort to secure those connections.

Why NSA surveillance is good for you!

Pulitzer, here I come. The best piece of the decade, and maybe the century to come. Here's a somewhat sarcastic article highlighting the positive sides of the alleged massive NSA surveillance programs. Enjoy. I repeat, enjoy.

    From the article.
It's very clear that this surveillance is of no value regarding its stated purpose. They obviously know this as well, but they continue to defend it use. It should be clear to everyone that this surveillance isn't for detecting terrorists.
