    Hello,

My last Spybot update was March 4, 2004. I've been trying to download new updates but there are none available. Is anyone else having this problem.

I'm currently using Spybot v1.2 . I've heard from a security expert on TV that there are fake versions of Spybot in the web with spyware and trojans. He encouraged people to download from the original developer's website. The developer Patrick Kolla's website is not working. It seems to be down. Here is the site

Can someone go to that site and try it?

    Can someone help me please.

    Thanks and cheers. :D

Hmm, security.kolla.de seems to be down, and this is not the first time.

All of the above responses are correct. May I add that you apparently must upgrade to v1.3 to get further updates. V1.2 signatures are no longer being updated. FYI.

  7. Oh. Thanks so much. I also saw the v1.3 update at PC World but I hesitated from downloading it because I only download from Patrick Kolla's website. I have stopped downloading from Major Geeks because three files I downloaded there had viruses in it.

I wasn't aware that I had to upgrade to 1.3 to download updates.

Does anyone know why the developer's site is down?

Thank you all for your responses. This is a cool tech forum.

    Hi Youders

Could you tell me what have you downloaded from Major Geeks's site that had viruses?

I think I have downloaded Firefox 0.9/0.9.1/0.9.2 and SpywareBlaster using their links.

A bit concern now if the site is not very secure.

    Thank you.

    I use MG's and I have never seen a virus there. ;)

Ditto. Used them quite a lot. OF COURSE, ANY site I dl from, I scan with everything first. Even stuff here from Wilders. I always got into the habit of scanning automatically :)

Thank you for your reassurance bigc73542.

But I really want to know what Younders was on about.

I forgot to scan the downloaded files from the MGs' links so far (1st time I have forgotten to scan downloads. I usually do.) so now I am just concerned that's all and if Younders knew about the virures I think s/he should have let others know sooner as many will use MGs' site as download site from time to time.

    hhmm ...

    :(

    Cheers Tas.

Would my AV (up to date) detect the virus if I downloaded them prior to installing them?

I usually switch off everything and disconnet from the net when I do the installation. Then switch everything on again before reconnecting to the net.

    So my questions:

    1) With AV on and if I download files containing virus will my AV picks them up? I know you have to scan but if my AV is turn on to scan the system at all time will it detects the virus?

    2) Or will my AV detect the virus after I installed them?

    Please advice.

    Cheers

If your on access av scanner is on you should detect a virus as the file is downloaded. If not, at least as you attempt to open it.

    Thank you bigc73542.

I think I can sleep well now. My system has been stable so far.

I swear to remember to do a scan on the downloads before I install them next time. D'oh!

    Cheers
