Why doesn't it say Source & Destination or something? From here the GUI seems screwy.

Yes, that's what I thought. So I leave it checked, right? Thanks.

Yeah, it doesn't seem very explicit.

It's GUIs like that drive me FN nuts. How lazy/egotistical are the software makers that they don't have the GUIs examined by outside experts & focus groups.

GUI's like that probably seem straightforward to tech types who probably dream in binary. :argh:

They probably figure you know your on the C drive so that must be the source of your image, so the destination of your image must be the external drive which has its own drive letter.

OK, well, that explains it. I am on the current version and did not create a winpe disk. Still, do you get the password option if you create an image from WINDOWS Not using the PE disk?

I didn't see a password option in Macrium free program, only in older version of WinPE rescue disk. This is what an older version of bootable WinPE window looks like.
Apparently older free version(s) also had incremental & differential backup options available.

Well, it only takes me 4 minutes to backup the whole drive so I do not use incremental. Did passwords only work when you booted from the WinPE disk?

Backing up a full drive yes, it doesn't take much time at all. It's restoring that whole drive especially if you go back to a much earlier image backup after you made a lot of changes. That may take some time. Incremental or differential comes in handy when one doesn't want to do a full system backup or restore and should take less time.
Password and encryption options worked only from the bootable WinPE disk. (earlier version)

Tried the Linux bootable version, but was unable to get it to work.

Well, I have done restores of the full image and they were just as fast. Of course this is on a new Z97 system I just built with a 512 GB SSD, 3TB HDD and an i7-4790k with 16GB memory!

May depend on couple of factors:
New vs old system including amount of memory.
How many changes were made between time of backup and time to restore.
It could also be the newer versions of Macrium work faster than older versions, but not sure.
