Blues, I totally understand where you are coming from and I certainly agree with your sentiments about the lack of a change log re each new build.

Btw, one of my PCs is a 10-yr old Dell with WinXP - on which I experienced some WSA issues as well. Since MS will soon discontinue supporting XP I've decided to install Win7 on my Dell (which is still going strong after all those years).

I've yet to decide what route I'm going to take vis-a-vis XP...time will tell.
I think your choice of Win7 makes a lot of sense. It seems to be much more universally accepted and appreciated compared to later offerings.

It's too bad about WSA. I'd really had high hopes...who knows, another bout may be in the offing. We're a hard headed lot around here. :p

Absolutely, and a Win7 OEM disk with product key (legit) can be had for under $70$60! ;)

Since I reported my WSA-XP problem I was just advised that a new release is available for download, asking me to try it. :doubt:

If you want, we can compare notes via PM. I've tried the latest version and will be happy to let you know what I experienced.

I see that the date of the build was changed from 12/6/13 to 1/20/14, but the build number was not changed...

    Thanks.

I tried to image a SSD disk with 4 partitions (GPT+UEFI), ~34GB OS and programs on a 128GB SSD. The imaging was extremely slow: it would take ~75 min to image this SSD OS drive. Acronis finished within 4min.
I have never had any luck with Drive Snapshot. Either extremely slow, or falied to restore. This is the 3rd chance to gave it and it blew it.

It will be a very long time before I will even consider going back to Drive Snapshot. I am done with it. The only thing about it is that you can run the exe directly from a Win8 PE disk.

That is correct for the 32-bit version. However the build number of the 64-bit version changed from 16540 (on 12/6/13) to 16541 (on 1/20/14). ;)

As I indicated, I don't know how DS performs with SSDs. I only use HDDs and in that respect DS has been the very best image-backup that I've ever used (much more so than Acronis)!

With my HDD, DS is much quicker and more convenient to create an image with than Macrium (Standard).

However, I will give the edge to Macrium when it comes to being able to restore an image directly from startup or reboot via Windows PE and the drivers that Macrium helps install for that purpose.

I alternate my backups between the two programs. Each has saved my bacon more than once when the system experienced a "hiccup".

DS is a magic piece of software, like Winrar and a few others. Never disappointment. Actually I don´t care about update's details.

A fresh Windows 7 system often includes a System Reserved (boot) partition at the beginning of the disk which doesn't have a drive letter. Apparently, DS now sees that partition on your system and is offering to back it up. Imho you should do that.

    Agreed.

Windows 8 installed in UEFI mode has 3 small partitions. Recovery, EFI System and MSR.
