KAV 5 has outstanding detection and an interface that is really simple. Probably best to install it with the ADS turned off.

I've used EZ for a while now and have no complaints at all. Since I don't collect virii for testing, I've begun going to known sites where, according to friends, you're fairly sure to get attacked. Stupid, I know, but it's certainly real world.

EZ did its job. I ran Dr. Web Cureit after and a couple of online scans next day. They found nothing.

I think EZ if a fine (not great as in KAV) antivirus. I feel comfortable with it, along with Kerio 4.1.3 firewall, free WinPatrol (which I think is similar to Process Guard), Dr. Web Cureit for on demand backup, and SpyBot.

    Antarctica,

If are you that will install the AV, you can install NOD32 and config it to your daughter needs... After that I think that is very simple...

If you want a free AV, try "avast! Home Edition" or "AntiVir Personal Edition Classic".
The only problem of AntiVir is that doesn't have email clients scanner and incremental updates...

Once NOD32 was setup (by you), surely it would be a "set it and forget it" type setup, until a major update is released...

Perhaps your daughter qualifies for a student discount?

    Thanks webyourbusiness,

Yes, shes is a student, but I don't know if this is also valid in Canada. Or is it
    only in the US?

I live in Asia and got my student license from the link on my signature :)

    NOD32-AV is a very reliable source of purchase - I guarantee :)

Any student qualifies for a student license, provided you produce some proof that your daughter is a student. This includes any of the following methods (an email will be sent on purchase asking for this proof):

    1)Fax of Semester/Trimester/School term schedule
    2)Fax of Student ID
    3)EMail from student account
4)Any other info that can qualify your daughter as a student (progess reports, ID cards, links to school/college websites where students are listed, etc.)

If you are interested, post back :)

Dr.Web would be a wise choice for your daughter..

I have Dr.Web on both of my sons computers.

    Antarctica,

a student license in the US/Canada can be supplied either by Eset directly, or any US/Canadian reseller.

    Firecat,

You live in Asia and bought from a US reseller? Eset is clear on US resellers supplying overseas markets, they are SERIOUSLY dead-set against it... it's a practice that can get your reseller status REVOKED. Because it's not worth risking the reseller status, we removed the relevant countries from our checkout!!

As a first port of call, you should always purchase from the NOD32 distributor, or a reseller in your home country - if that fails, a direct purchase is recommended.

    regards

    Greg

I purchased from an Eset authorised partner, not a reseller.

It is to do with Student Licenses not being available in the country of origin.

    Cheers :D

So thank you all. what I will do is wait for the new version of NOD32, which is suppose to be released anyday now. Her license with Norton is good for another week or so.

If the new version of NOD32 is still not released in one week, I will then go for
    Dr.Web.

I will then install the demo and see if she likes it or not.

I use EZAV and find it a decent AV. KAV and NOD are no doubt better, but weigh what you are using it for. If you are rich buy a whole arsenal. Me, I'm frugal. EZ even picked up a virus from a wallpaper saturday. The realtime scanner said "possible infection"...I am not a AV expert, but I did not know that EZ used hueristics.

EZ is EZ, I find KAV 5 easy too. AVG free, Panda Titanium, F-Secure and Bitdefender are all relatively easy for a kid too.

Certainly not a bad plan going with NOD32.

I would consider Command AV, once you load it for her and set it up it pretty much takes care of itself. I interface with my copy way more then is necessary. She may not like it I think only those who like boring but effective AV like Command. ;)
