I have been using the Ubuntu 6.10 live cd to test the linux waters. One big concern I have is I can only get a resolution of 1620x1200. How do I get 1920x1200? My system specs are dell 2405 fpw and SLI 7800 GTX.
The only other distros that I have tried are open suse 10.1, Pclinuxos and Mandriva one and they all can run at 1920x1200 without any reconfiguring.

    thanks
    Ptah

if the same monitor works with other distros then it will work with ubuntu too. you just need to add a setting in a file called xorg.conf ---> /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you make a mistake with xorg.conf stuff can break, so make a backup first)
    Code:
    sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
there is a GUI front-end for it if you want it.

i'm sure i'm right about it working with ubuntu, but here's a thread i just remembered, below, which should tell you if i'm wrong.

you could just try running this
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
