Migrate Easy Problem Cloning: Can't resize, Red C's

I am trying, unsuccessfully, to clone my laptop hard drive to a new larger drive. For the cloning, the new drive has to be in a USB enclosure. After cloning, I'll put the new drive in the laptop.

Migrate Easy (trial version) won't let me resize either the 37.27 GB NTFS partition or the 32 GB ext3 partition.

What does the red “C” in the ext3 partition mean? (See screen1.png, attached)

A couple of screens later, there are 4 red Cs. (See screen2.png, attached)

Any idea what the red Cs mean or what may be causing the problem?
