    do the email security test, it sends you test emails with fake virus and u can tell what picks it up

    You are right, the PST has an index. It would be stupid of MS not to use it. You notice the influence of the index when you change the harddisk for a solid state drive. The reponsiveness of outlook increases dramatically. Outlook sort of has the same SSD benefits as a data base application.

    I did a full scan,it's fast on my computer. Took 10-minutes or so to scan a 80-gig hard-drive.

    I'm unaware of any conflicts,as I've just started using Microsoft Security Essentials AV tonight ;)

    Strange. The scan is not that quick for me. It takes about 3mins for a quick scan on a 60Gig drive, with 1G of ram and 1.8 dual core processor. The complete scan takes about 2hrs. However, I really don't run complete scans using the setup I have.

    I don't know what it does, but I have been using Outlook and MSE here and there is no perceptible performance hit whatsoever during email sending and receiving. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

    Not too fussed since I only use Real Time.

    I just tried to send myself about 8-10 eicar test emails. Only thing Outlook actually received was the two emails saying what were sent when I clicked submit each time. I cannot find any log of anything happening nor the emails themselves. :eek:

    You should read the details in the linked thread, MSE would have stopped any infection if the file was somehow allowed through outlook's protection.
