Nod32 resident scanner Amon and Imon will protect me from file transfer with messenger / live messenger ? So what's the benefit from using messenger file transfer scan settings ? Why scan a file transfer twice ? Why is this option available ?

I guess you have to ask Microsoft this question why they have this option available, but for those that don't use a realtime scanner (if any) it might be useful. Also if you don't have the highest possible security settings in your antivirus software you might use this with higher security settings if you prefer if you feel it's a risk to receive files using msn/windows live messenger. You could also use another scanner for the file transfer and be protected by two different antivirus engines when receiving file since one is used for scanning the files when transferred and the other running on your computer to scan everything in the background.
Anyway for the file transfer to work at all you must use this either by using the onecare scanner from Microsoft or by using your own antivirus software. I don't think the latest versions of windows live messenger will allow you to transfer files without using a scanner.

Similar to asking about e-mail protection...POP3 and SMTP scanning.

I prefer my Pitt Bull to be lean mean and aggressive when it checks anything being transfered by Messenger, and before AMON gets near it.

Not sure if the above is totally correct, but it sure is nice to see NOD32 bark and bite (check and then close) ;) :D

    Cheers :D

    So if I understand correctly,

    - The moment I receive a file with messenger, Amon will jump on the file and start scanning with the settings that I have set...perhaps lower than maximum.

    - Using Mr Blackspear :D messenger file transfer settings , means performing a scan using the maximum settings on a file, prior to Amon jumps in.

    - If I disable Amon o_O , and use messenger file transfer settings, I wood still be protected.

AMON does not scan inside archives, that's why you should prefer an on-demand scan whenever possible.
