i think the image was corropt.
eiether the download was corropt or when i burnt it to cd it wasnt burnt right.
as soon as the desktop of mandriva linux with kde interface loads it comes up with a crash error message.
so since linux is meant to be stable then the image must of corropt on its journey lol.

btw you can check if a debian based distro (ubuntu, mepis, debian) has drivers for your hardware here - http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/index.cgi all you have to do is run this command while using any linux livecd, or i suppose an installed linux -
    Code:
    lspci -n
then paste the results in the box and select check and see what it says. if the command doesn't run (it doesn't with suse) then run it like this instead -
    Code:
    /sbin/lspci -n

    thanks
    I will try that later.
does firefox in mandriva have java and flash installed?
    and other linux distros
i was just looking at the mandriva page of programs that it has that can do the same job as in windows and its got all but one thing covered.
    sonicstage.
i cant seem to find a program in linux that can transfer atrac3 format music to my sony mp3 player or listen to those files.
i dont think sony would listen if i asked them to make a sonicstage for linux distros lol.

I tried Mandriva a couple months back. I had the same problem. I'm only running 192 mb of ram. lol. The live cd booted up, but it was so slow. I remember clicking on a item, and it would take about 10 seconds for Mandriva to react.

After taking the cd out. I went to Mandriva website, and they said a minimum of 256 mb of ram needed, but 512 mb recommended. No wonder I couldn't get anywhere. LOL

my test pc only has 256mb of ram lol.
im trying to save up £300 and get a cheap amd dual core system that is more powerful than the desktop i use now lol.

i was trying kubuntu today came on a cover disc.
does kubuntu have the same drivers as unbuntu?
because if it does then the unbuntu cd didnt burn right but the kubuntu disc from a mag works fine.
i found out that the kdesysguard was like windows task manager.
what is the task manager thing in mandriva called?

My bad, I took your word "kdesysguard" its actually called "KSysGuard"

    terminal CL=ksysguard, not "kdesysguard"

I don't know where it is in the Mandriva menu, in PCLinuxOS its it Applications> Monitoring
