Again, why bother? Get Windows 8 if you believe in an IQ challenged OS designed for the smartphone generation crowd. o_O

Because he mixes the potentially useful stuff with useless controversial remarks.

I was saying I like the glossy look more than the flat look.

In time Microsoft will put together another version leaving 8 in the past with the other versions that were failures. Then we can only hope another gem like 7 will appear. Then half of us will upgrade, and the rest will get a new PC with the new version AGAIN.

My wife has an Asus tablet with Win 8. She uses the touch screen and I use the keyboard and mouse when I'm allowed to play with it. I think Metro leaves the Win7 Start Menu for dead. If Win 8.1 has a Win7 type Start Menu I will still use Metro. Metro is so customizable.

I think there is a fundamental difference say between upgrading a machine from Win7 to Win8, and buying a new computer with Win 8 pre-installed. If I had Win 7 on my latest computer I would never upgrade to Win 8. I have 5 computers at home and they are all with their original version of Windows.

Upgrading to newer OS may be in some situations useless as from XP to Win 8 they all perform the same basic computer tasks. Speaking of which I'm interested in subscribing to MS Office 365 Home Premium as it allows 5 computers for one license. The catch is that it is only possible for machines running Win 7 and Win 8 therefore to make it convenient I would have to upgrade at least 2 of my computers...

If you'd be happy with a Trabant I certainly love my new hybrid.

I also love Metro. I can't understand why some people are so intolerant towards it. Most computers are going to be touch screen in the near future, it is inevitable.

He's full of them it appears.

Talk about someone who needs to chill. Jeez.

Mrk works at a university. He's a computer expert. The dude knows his stuff, and I respect his opinion as do a lot of others.

You, on the other hand...well....you need to switch to decaf.

    Rofl.

Fallacious appeal to authority is so commonplace.

Sooner or later, it just has to appear.

Some people just want more of the same.

They don't accept that Windows 7 was the zenith of Win32 and that the world changed since then.

And that these changes guided the WinRT which is now the star of Windows 8 and future Windows versions.

Nope. But your statement is indeed more from the delusional "whatever Wild Hunter posts that seems to agree with MS = marketing" machine.

Hahaha... I think I would faint dead away if you ever actually said something objective and critical of MS and their Future Agenda....

    This is so recurrent.

But I can't help if present MS is simply so good that I can hardly find something to disagree with them. lol

In past years, if I was actually participating of this forum, you would certainly see me criticizing MS. I despised Vista, for example. I despised the previous lack of development of IE.

But let me give a more current example:

I disagree with the fact that the Windows 8 Enterprise is so difficult to buy (and even impossible, in some cases).

(...Windows 8 Enterprise is available exclusively as a benefit of Microsoft Software Assurance through Volume Licensing programs such as Select Plus, Enterprise Agreement, and Enterprise Subscription Agreement....)

The Professional version lacks nice features that only the Enterprise has such as Windows To Go and others.

IMO, Microsoft ignored some scenarios where non-enterprise users could find such features useful for them.

You're way off, dude (as usual). I've known Mrk for years via the Linux subsection. He's taught me, and I'm sure others, a lot about the workings of Linux. To refute your "Fallacious appeal to authority" statement, I've had my disagreements with him over the years particularly about his choice for distro of the year, but still I always respect his opinion. You, on the other hand, don't know him. You take every opportunity you can it seems to degrade or disrespect practically anything he may say. I really don't know what your motivation is for acting in such a manner but it surely doesn't reflect well upon you. It's obvious to anyone reading your responses. You're just one of those insulting trolls that turn up every once in awhile that others are forced to endure. Enough said.

But seriously...switch to decaf. Trust me...you'll feel better. Then again, with your attitude, maybe not.

    @WH above post:

Ok, good, that's a little more balanced. I do think they blew it when they left AppLocker out of Pro, yes. That was a disappointment.

In my case, I thought Vista was a dog, I think 7 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I thought XP was so so, I thought Win2k was unbelievably excellent, I thought 98 was ok, and I didn't think much of 95. I even used Win 3.x in it's time, and DOS before that. I loved DOS, that's when my programming days began.

And now... I just can't stand 8. And to top it off, 8 is apparently the face of everything else to come. So all I can do at this point is just sigh.... and hope something changes somewhere down the road...

You are wrong, Trespasser. I actually enjoy reading nearly everything Mrk posts.

Especially about Linux. And I'm an avid visitor of his website (www.dedoimedo.com - I have it bookmarked!).

Really interesting stuff mixed with really funny (although sometimes too much narcissistic) remarks.

However, I simply don't agree with him in many security and Windows 8 related matters.
