Hmm, any more news about the feature where you are supposed to be able to directly launch images in a VM? Can't remember what it would be called or where to find info on it... Or did I dream it all?
Thanks, OliverJia! I haven't tested yet, but noticed the links for the new free version 6 are like this: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/latest_release_notes.asp (this will always link to latest release notes, 6.0.685 when I wrote this) General download link (always gets the latest v6 free version): 32bit: http://updates.macrium.com/Reflect/v6/getmsi.asp?edition=0&type=99&arch=0&redirect=Y 64bit: http://updates.macrium.com/Reflect/v6/getmsi.asp?edition=0&type=99&arch=1&redirect=Y
Hello, A new update has been released, version 6.0.685: Download Page: http://www.macrium.com/Download.aspx?type=home Release Notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/v6.0.685/details6.0.685.htm
Do we know if that will also be available in the Home version and do we know if the update will be free or a paid upgrade?
SanyaIV, there is no difference, technically, between the HOME and WORKSTATION versions, only in their Support Models. All minor version updates (v6.x) are FREE for the life for your current license (Perpetual for the current v6). With the new Support Models being based on new version functionality, Macrium will most likely try and put a major update (v7) on the street as close to yearly as possible. These will not only be money makers (new version, new license or upgrade) but their intent is to make them much more functional (not just window dressing for license income purposes, aka Acronis) at the same time... we'll have to wait and see how this works out
You can now add a boot menu so you can easily restore a system image without inserting rescue media. What does the above means in little details plzz? Its mentioned for free version. Does it changes mbr or any way affected by windows updates like Rollback, etc...?
All Reflect does is add an entry to the Windows BCD (BOOT Control Data) that the standard Windows BOOTmgr will use whenever you BOOT. This process is AFTER all special Rollback activity and doesn't change the MBR. What it will do is cause your system to now stop at a BOOT Menu on the way up with your OS selected as the DEFAULT for BOOT. It will remain there for a few seconds to allow you to select the Macrium option if you wish... if you don't, it will advance into a Windows BOOT operation. The few seconds wait is configurable in Windows so if you feel its too long, you can change it. With that option in place, under LIVE Windows. if you decide to do a RESTORE operation to a LOCKED partition (Windows C: ), Macrium will offer you the ability to do it automatically (unattended) and ask for a System RESTART. Upon RESTART, Macrium will temporarily set the Macrium BOOT option in your BOOTmgr menu to itself rather than your Windows OS and during that RESTART it will automatically go into the Macrium Recovery Environment and do the recovery for you, then changing everything back to normal, will reBOOT your system into your recovered System partition... no need for your intervention. With that entry in your BOOT manager, you may also select it during your BOOT process if you wish to do Manual imaging/restoration on your own... no need for separate Recovery Media unless your HDD is toast.
Using v6 Home paid: I recently have a strange problem. I installed the Recovery Boot Menu on my Win 8.1 Pro x64 machine and it was working perfectly with a delay of 10 seconds. However this has now stopped working. It is as if the delay gets aborted (the 'Windows starting in 10 secs ...', or at least some message seems to momentarily flash up and disappear), the countdown doesn't happen, and I have to manually select the 8.1 option to boot. I am not sure how/when this first came about. It may have been after I tried resetting the delay to 5 seconds, or after a (first) restore on this machine using the MR boot option. Support have offered various ways to reset the delay time: msconfig, via command prompt, or control panel / system but that is not the issue. No matter the delay value, the countdown is not working (except unexpectedly on one occasion). It may not be Macrium but something in the UEFI ... anyone else experienced this issue, or can suggest a solution?
Paulderdash, if you don't already have it, you should download the FREE version of "EasyBCD" from NeoSmart and install it on your machine. When you run it, it should give you some information about your current BCD structure and may give you some hint as to what's wrong and allow you to repair it..
Will try it. Hope I understand the 'bcd structure' info and may need to post back in case / before I 'bork' anything
Cool, thanks for the links. It appears this app has good enough features now (the free version), only thing I hope they could improve is the the speed and compression ratio. I remember Drive Snapshot did an overhaul about two years ago to improve its performance, and now Snapshot is the fastest while with the most efficient compression. Very impressive. Hope Macrium Reflect with follow suit.
I see 8.1 and Macrium Recovery Environment boot loaders in EasyBCD detailed view and boot manager timeout of 10 as expected so all looks OK. I have tried uninstalling the Macrium Recovery Boot Menu (selecting 'none') and reinstalling it but that didn't help either. It did suddenly work once since the problem started (and it worked fine before) so I wonder what is interfering with the countdown process. Maybe I will just have to resign myself to the manual select - just don't like it when something is not working as it should ...
Paulderdash, you can always try EasyBCDs "BCD Backup/Repair" function... use only the "Re-create/repair boot files" option (other options are destructive in nature). Then check to see if the "glitch"is gone...
Thanks for the news about Reflect Free v6! Looks like an excellent way to spread the benefits about Reflect.
Concerning Reflect Free v6: I noticed that the bar showing the amount of space used in the reserved system partition on the primary drive is now RED. Is that just something new with Version 6? All the bars showing data used on different partitions were BLUE in Reflect Free v5. I assume the new version is just flagging the reserved system data partition in RED now, but I wanted to make sure that nothing is wrong with that system partition.
A basic question here, guys. Reflect uses Task Scheduler to schedule backups. So, if I change my Windows password, do I have to go into Task Scheduler and change the Computer\User\Password?
Hadron, No problems. You don't have to go into Task Scheduler and change the Computer\User\Password. The task will continue to work after you have changed your login password.
