LOL, Pete. You're so right. And I have to read in the mobo manual again about how to password protect the BIOS settings and all of that; ough, not looking forward to have to do that. Wondering whether I really want to go through that stress at all... Anyways, big huge thanks to you as well !!!
I have the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and am doing a default factory disk image via live USB Macrium Reflect Free software. The default disk and partitions look like this including Lenovo restore partitions, etc. Since I have not used Macrium in a long time, am I correct assuming that when I hit "image this disk" it will back up the ca. 45 GB of data on the various partitions as well as the various partition tables and sizes? Meaning if after the OS image was done correctly I go over the disk with e.g. DBAN and put on it whatever I like after the cleaning with only two partitions on it (one for OS & one for data), will I be able to restore all the default factory partitions from the prior default factory state with the disk image created with Macrium? Doing this for a friend and in case they like to give away or sell the laptop later on it would be great to have the default Lenovo partitions and data back on the drive like it was. I am sure Macrium can do this, just wanted to confirm with your guys before going at it since I have not used Macrium for a longer time. Thanks.
Instead of installing Macrium Reflect Free first and then creating the rescue media (bootable ISO) for use on offline backup, is there a direct link to download the bootable ISO? I am interested in downloading the Linux-based bootable ISO. WinPE-based ISO will also work if Linux-based ISO is no longer available.
Hadron, that ISO is a very expensive alternative Recovery Media, not available for free. (see bottom of THIS PAGE for details)
There is no Macrium Linux-based ISO to download. You have to create the WinPE recovery ISO. Not possible to create a WinRE ISO either.
Regarding the question I had, yes of course this is possible with Macrium Reflect. It will resotre the partitions and everything.
Paulderdash, sorry I'm late getting back on this. From your note it appears only the BOOT menu itself was screwed up when this whole thing started, not the Recovery Media Reflect UI. If that was the case, then it could be related to your other anomalies you describe above... something corrupted your System. Your restoration seems to have gotten you back to normal, but I'd keep a weary eye on that System, especially your OS storage device (SSD/HDD). Unrecoverable read errors (soft or hard) can start event chains like you've seen above. I would recommend a disk checker to check the health of the device, and some program that can read the S.M.A.R.T. data from the disk and give you a summary. Those kinds of System anomalies are not supposed to happen <...swallowing hard>.
Just a quick question before I "play" with a new Office 2016. I have Windows 10 pro 1607 and Office 2013 Pro all activated fine. If I do a full image, as I ALWAYS do, and then uninstall Office 2013. and then install and activate Office 2016, can I then restore my full image and get back to where I was all activated and using Office 2013, etc like I never "played" with Office 2016? I hope the Office uninstall tool does not somehow deactivate office 2013 if I do want to go back to the full image. I hope this makes sense.
LOL of course you'll get everything back like nothing happened. That's why we call it "disk image" backup.
Yes, I just wanted to be sure the Office uninstall did not send anything to MS that would deactivate Office if I did an image restore. Just worrying I guess.
Thanks @TheRollbackFrog. What is screwed is when I select the Macrium Reflect System Recovery option in the Recovery Boot Menu, the WinPE screen is at a resolution of 640x480 with no other options available under 'Other Tasks'>'Screen Resolution'. This is not the case if I boot from my rescue media CD, nor if I restore an AU 1607 image I have rolled back from where the WinPE screen resolution is fine. A restore from within Macrium, requiring a reboot via the PE, works fine. It is just the screen resolution when booting in to the WinPE, is such that it makes it almost unusable in terms of selecting a backup image. I know you visited my thread on the Macrium Support Forum. I have tried everything there (disabling secure boot, reinstalling MR and PE components and deleting everything under c:\programdata\macrium\reflect\windows kits and c:\boot\macrium first, with no success. If I do a Windows disk check via right-click C: drive>Tools now, it doesn't find a problem 'You don't need to scan this drive'. The S.M.A.R.T data via Speccy and SSD-Z for my SSD system drive is all good. I have looked EasyBCD also to see if I could spot an issue there, but this stuff is all a bit too technical for me. Some sort of corruption does indeed seem to be the most likely cause, possibly a cumulative 1511 Windows update? I wish I could get to the bottom of it.
Hello, A new update has been released, version 6.2.1544... Homepage: http://www.macrium.com/ Download Page: http://www.macrium.com/Download.aspx?type=home Release Notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/v6.2.1544/details6.2.1544.htm
That's the DOWNLOAD link... if you have the app, just use the menu item "Other tasks/Check for updates"... you'll only get a patch for your existing installation. Other than that, I need to know what version you're looking for as far a FULL installable version is concerned.
Thanks I need the home version. At the moment I have it on Win 8 and want to transfer it onto Win 7 (I know you have to uninstall etc.). It would be easier to install the full latest rather than piecemeal. Does the free version convert to the full with the reg key?
After todays update Workstation 6.2.1544, I can't boot into either the USB drive or the Recovery Boot option. I get a BSOD with error 0x000021a. I noticed when it was updating that a screen flew by stating something like unable to extract winpe.zip. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will now reinstall AXTM 1.4.148. I thought that Macrium was solid. Now I am concerned.
Silver you might have some security software blocking it. If I try to rebuild the RE and forget to turn off Appguard, it blocks it.
Yes, I had Voodooshield on. I have now downloaded the full version from Macrium. Now when I try to build the USB or the Recovery Boot Menu, I get an error, "Unable to import store". Any suggestions.
