I know this has been asked before but my memory is that no one really knew the answer.

When you install Macrium free, this service installs. But it my admittedly limited tests, I can disable it with no apparent effect to the use of Macrium.

So, the question remains... What does this service do??

    Hi HAN :)

This Macrium service is needed to mount a Macrium image so that you can browse the contents of the image once it is mounted, listed in windows explorer under whatever drive letter you assign the image during the mounting procedure.

It is necessary for mounting an image to browse and perhaps copy files, etc., but it does not need to be set to run as it does by default. Instead of disabling the service, I would advise setting it to "Manual" mode so that if you ever want to mount a Macrium image, it will start the service once you begin the mounting process.

I hope that helps in some way. :)

    Jim
