Alright, something happened Friday and Saturday that just filled my computer up with spyware and malware....this is despite Spybot, Norton, and AdAware being installed at the time.

Despite numerous scans with the programs, including some online ones, I could not get rid of some of the software. I ended up downloading some new programs for spyware to hopefully help. I also got Reg Organizer and deleted "bridge.dll," "loader.exe," and "iedll.exe" entries since they all did not have a legit function, but came with the download. Bridge.dll was installed on SAturday, May 1, and many other mysterious files in the system 32 folder were also from that same day. The thing is so full of crap I would like to wipe it clean, but don't dare delete something unless I know for certain it is spyware, adware, or a virus/trojan of some kind. But, I don't know. Anyway, at least I was able to delete those three files (bridge.dll would not delete before I deleted it in the registry).

I am having some problems with a stupid Golden Palace Casino though.....no matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of it, even with some online help. I should note that various other little programs like that, which I now have removed....though probably not totally, were put on the desktop along with Golden Palace.

I believe enough of the stranglehold with whatever was on here is gone since I can get to this website (before it would not let me, nor a couple other computer security websites).

Thanks for any advice and here is my file for viewing....I really really appreciate any help you can give! I can follow directions and delete registry entries etc., but I obviously have not caught everything here and need some help.

I should note that the logfile shows a bunch of old attempts at redirecting my homepage etc. A couple months ago I had a big problem with "acoolwebsearch" and finally got that removed with cwsshredder, which I had to run again tonight (it caught and removed a couple related infections to coolwebsearch). But, maybe these redirect attempts are still in my sytem and not removed or something (it is in the logfile) as you can plainly see.

Also had: incredifind, ezula....I think I may have gotten rid of incredifind maybe (not really sure), but ezula seems to be an elusive sucker.

Anyway, thanks for any help. You don't know how appreciative I am of someone willing to take their personal time to try to help another out here.

    Here is my log file:

first run the peper trojan remover from thespykiler website in my signature, you must be online and connected to the net for it to work

then download http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/VB_Projects/HostsFileReader.zip unzip it and then click on search for hosts
when any hosts file is found, it will be listed in the bottom window, click on it and press the reset default button.
that will replace any bad entries with the standard windows entries
NOTE: if you use a customized hosts file to block certain sites then this will overwrite all those entries as well and you will need to re enter them

then post a new hijackthis ;log and we'll clear up the rest

    Okay,

Well, I forgot to mention that my ad-aware (ad-watch bundled with it) still and has for awhile notified me when I reboot the computer that some program tries to make my homepage that tooncomics site or another site. Such a redirect appears to be listed in the log file, as the main site should be foxnews.com, not the other stuff.

But, I do not want to delete anything until I am told to do so.

Quite frankly, I thought I had gotten rid of the tooncomics problem several months ago when that first appeared after I followed some removal instructions online. But, I obviously missed something.

Also, note that the last O16 entry is one indicative of another malware problem I received the other day; I believe that tried to load a bar on the bottom of the screen or just send me to a new homepage. But, it was annoying as well.

Anyway, here is my new log file after doing what you instructed. The hosts file search did remove two extra host files created by other programs. The peper trojan removal did not find anything to remove. I also checked myself for the sasser worm at the Microsoft site and it said I did not have that.

while you still use a P2P program like Kazaa you will be more open to these attacks

to see if we can prevent the cws hijackers reinfecting you try this
a workaround seems to be install a good firewall, lists here http://www.wilders.org/firewalls.htm if you haven't already got one and block these ranges of ports, both incoming and outgoing 209.66.114.0-209.66.115.255 and 81.211.105.0-81.211.105.255 and 213.159.117.0-213.159.118.255
that stops the known cws servers responding or the hidden files on your computer updating. This works sometimes but not always, but it's a help. The problem with this approach is that some good sites might also be blocked

    First download CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk

boot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    Delete these files
    C:\WINDOWS\41232.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\iedll.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\loader.exe

    and Delete these folders

    C:\Program Files\WebRebates\

    Now Run Cwshreddder
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Reboot After running cwshredder and as soon as possible follow this advice:
Now as CWS Hijacks are normally installed via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then
Reboot normally & post a new hijackthis log where the O4 entry for jushed32.exe will appear so we can remove it

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R302 03.05.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

    Alright...here is the deal.

I did what you said. I even went further and went into the registry (with reg organizer) and deleted the entries from the registry....the tooncomics and mshp.dll entries.

Despite this, they still came back on reboot.

Spybot S&D and AdAware pronounced by system clean.

Here is the latest log....the tooncomics and mshp.dll are back.

Also, just a question about Golden Palace Casino...I can't seem to get rid of that via online directions I found. Plus I have a bunch of crap installed on the Windows C drive that happened from the infection the other night. Should I leave this on or go through all that trying to figure out what is good and not good? I would assume that if GPC is really there, it would have been caught by the programs?

Thanks for your help. I have spent hours on this and am almost there, but not quite (well......except for the remnants of the crap in the C drive).

Frustrating that I am so close.

Notice that iedll is still there as is loader.

This is despite a physical deletion of the files and fix in hijackthis.

I thought I also removed them from the registry directly, but did not (in these cases I hit the wrong button in Reg Organizer and it just deleted them from the list, not the registry like I thought). But, I know for certain the tooncomics entries etc. were deleted from the registry and appeared again.

Please follow all these steps exactly and very carefully

print out the information first and refer to it to make sure you do it all

As I said in the first place having KAzaa runing is a remedy for disaster, hopefully by removing it's start up entries that might help to cut down on the problems

It looks like you also have peper trojan so download and run the peper installer from thespykiller website in my signature. You must be online and connected to the net whilst doing that

to see if we can prevent the cws hijackers reinfecting you try this
a workaround seems to be install a good firewall, lists here http://www.wilders.org/firewalls.htm if you haven't already got one and block these ranges of ports, both incoming and outgoing 209.66.114.0-209.66.115.255 and 81.211.105.0-81.211.105.255 and 213.159.117.0-213.159.118.255
that stops the known cws servers responding or the hidden files on your computer updating.

    C:\WINDOWS\loader.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\Dkp0g.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\autoupdt.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\41232.exe

    Now Run Cwshreddder
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Reboot After running cwshredder and as soon as possible follow this advice:
Now as CWS Hijacks are normally installed via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then
    Reboot normally
