well max budget would be £500.
the thing is if i e.g. payed for windows xp home i would save £20 but later on end up paying alot for the upgrade to vista. or i could get no OS and use windows 2k pro.
but then later on to get vista oem would mean buying a new componant for the pc.
also i know that people will say vista is buggy etc etc but all these bad things where said about xp but most people use that these days.
i want to have some money to pay for shadow protect desktop.
the external drive is to store images.
would it be cheaper to buy a enclosure and then stick an internal HD in it?
i can probaly dump the external drive but that means i only have one drive.
to create a fresh image i need to create a separate partistion for it or have a second drive internal or external.

doesnt have to be external so then internal drive will do.
i can always stick the second drive in an enclosure later on.

    Here is my opinion.

    Laptop Advantages/Disadvantages
    1. Compaq
    2. Light
    3. Easy to carry around
    4. Quiet
    5. Low power consumption

    1. Difficult to manuver with TouchPad
    2. Difficult to type.
    3. Not upgradable in terms of GPU, CD DVD Rom (Maybe CPU too. Depends on your manufacturer)
    4. issues with playing intense graphic games.
    5. etc...

    Desktop Advantages/Disadvantages
    1. Powerful on every aspect
    2. Able to upgrade every piece of Hardware.
    3. etc...

    1. Noisy (That depends on many different aspects of your pc. Fans, heatsink, etc...)
    2. High Power consumption

I might have missed some, but you've got the idea.

    regards

    this forum is biased!
my only con for laptop is that it can be difficult to upgrade certain parts and can cost a little more.

but i prefer to pay more for a laptop for its size, i can use it anywhere.
plus my laptop out-performs my brothers p4 3ghz/200gb/1gb ram by almost double according to tests :D

dell are fantastic with support and drivers/software assistance etc, so id recommend them for purchase.

ok for £465 i can get the following,
    two 80gb HD's 7200rpm
    amd 3800 dual core.
    asus mobo.
    trident case with 350watt psu.
    1gb of ram.
    light scribe dvd burner.
internal 57 in 1 card reader.
    floopy drive:D
    and creative X-FI extreme audio.
sure once i get the money that spec wil be alot cheaper.
the mobility of the laptop is great but its hard to play any game on a laptop due to the graphics cards.
i would love to have the laptop my next door neighbor has thou,
it has like intel core duo 2.0ghz 1gb of ram and a decent graphics card for around £900 lol.

    woops i knew i forgot something a nvidia 7300 512mb
im used to the creative Audigy 2 ZS in this pc and i like to listen to alot of music.
i couldnt find any Audigy 2 ZS for sale anymore.
since this pc will still be used by my parents they will keep the creative Audigy 2 ZS in this pc.
i dont think on board sound will sound to good connected to a hifi.
if i put the pc upstairs i might as well connect it to the hfi up there.
the specs on post 57 are all from pc specialist.co.uk so aka a pc builti for me.
i was seeing if its any cheaper that way.
and i also forgot the £465 includes vista home premium

I would buy both laptop and desktop, one for using on "something" and the other one for another "something else"....coz both have pros and cons and advantages and disadvantages....and u know what it is. :D ;)

Maybe laptops is sexier than desktops, but desktops are more powerful and upgradable.

The cons that I hate in desktops was that its bulky, and if you have many other things in your room then it will just adds up to make ur room to look like an storage area. I am looking for a desktops that looks more modern, small, thin, and elegant looking....easy to move to anywhere in the room and also easy to hide....and still has all of the advantages and power that it has to offer with price affordable enough for any power users and surfers like me. ;)

If you are on buisness trips and moving a lot, laptop is the way to go.
If you stay at home, and don't travel a lot, Desktop is the way to go, and I Prefer Desktops over Laptops, IMO Faster, but that can change with hardware.

I used my second internal harddisk as backup media for awhile, until I bought an external harddisk, because I wanted to use my second harddisk for my data partition (much safer), instead of a data partition on my first internal harddisk.
