http://www.iloveubuntu.net/kde-developers-launch-homerun-unity-interface Homerun has just been released, presenting itself a a fullscreen launcher (designed with KDE in mind), "Homerun is a fullscreen launcher with content organized in tabs. A tab is composed of several "sources". A source can provide one or more sections to a tab. Homerun comes with a few built-in sources, but custom sources can be written using libhomerun".
I'm not surprised KDE is moving in a direction which means it could drop its netbook interface and provide a consistent user desktop experience across a wide range of computing devices.
Since KDE is also getting into tablets, this progression was but natural for them. I do have high hopes since KDE 4.93 is quite mature and stable.
I can see comparisons to both Unity and Gnome 3, but it not the same. It's an application launcher that uses the desktop area. If you like you can make it your desktop. That vertical taskbar or panel as it's called in KDE can easily be done using KDE without Homerun. Introducing Homerun - http://agateau.com/2012/11/14/introducing-homerun/
