In all honesty stratoc, did you ever think we would see the day that either product could work and not consume massive amounts of crap.

last norton i tried was 2005...... sooooo no not really. last kis i liked 2006 I think.
and tbh I cannot remember when any av i have used has actually found anything other than cookies.
Never been hacked, had my details stolen, hard drive eaten. I wonder sometimes I really do.
and it's for this reason i wont use any av that doesnt sit in the background. I have a 97 gig steam folder with a load of anti cheats and to kis after 2009 all this is 'riskware'

This is true. I really don't like the way the 2011 version handles false positives though. The exclusions I had to set up left too big of a hole for me to feel good about it. It also doesn't matter how many times I ran the AntiSpam training wizard, it still said it needed to be run. I feel it has a lot of potential, but still needs a bit more polish. :(

don't run the wizard, train from within the email client. I had a similar issue in 2009 version using thunderbird er 2 back then i think. use the 'spam' and 'not spam' buttons.
on default, ie include riskware etc i too had loads of false positives. And yet none on nod 32 v 2 and 3 with potential dangerous software enabled.
too many security programs think you should only have a browser and office installed maybe

The initial v2011 release's exclusions were not working well. CF1 (11.0.1.400) exclusion rules work fine though... you can choose to exclude a single file, folder (and subfolders if you want) and/or you can write a detection name you want to ignore... tight exclusion rule = excluding file+detection name. More often used exclusion rules are only file or only detection name.

An example so you will know what I did. I have a collection of 3Planesoft screensavers. It does not like 3 of them. They pack the executable, I assume to make it more difficult to make a keygen. With the 2010 version of KIS, I could just exclude it on detection and I was done. On the 2011 version, I tried that and they won't run. Windows says the file is missing. Not any kind of warning from KIS. Turning KIS off allows it to run normally. I tried to set up exclusions for the executable. No luck. They only way I was able to get it to work with KIS running was to set up an exclusion of *3D_Screensaver* as this is in the filename of all of them. Obviously this would exclude ANY file on my system anywhere with that string in the name. I have removed it because I didn't want to leave that open. On a full scan it also detected my Firefox profile as a false positive. I stopped it at that point and uninstalled. I basically like the program, but I hope to see these issues resolved before continuing to use it. I appreciate it when an AV protects me from a virus, but not when it tries to protect me from me. :D

2011 CF1 is working fine and fast here. It still contains few bugs which might get sorted in CF2 or 2012. New additional features in 2011 are great, but only experts might get benefit from them. Missed custom installation o_O from release build is sad decision of KL marketing department.

Exclusions didn't really work in the original release of 2011. It also could've been the HIPS blocking the screensavers (putting them to the "Untrusted" group).

Most likely. I have rolled back to the 2010 version with the SHAHSK-Y-BLKB01D black skin and will likely stay there for a long time. The 2011 interface is a little to "dumbed down" for my taste. Maybe with some updates and 3rd party skins it will get to be more to my liking. It is faster, but they are both fast enough. :thumb:

Does it continue to do that shutdown after shutdown? I know it does so one, two, maybe even three times, but then that sluggishness (both during startup and shutdown, btw) disappears completely. At least for me, over several installations on several operative systems and computers.

I always think of kaspersky as heavy. It's probably me being impatient, a lot of these suites need to settle in and tag everything that your system is running. that does seem to cause notable micro lag on my system until the system gets used to itself (hope that makes sense to someone:D )

Many AVs have scanning optimising techniques tagging files on the first scan, and as a result, performance is increased thereafter.

All you need to do is run a system scan (or scan folders often used) and its done.

    Yep a failure.

I wonder why the PDM module did not come into play. The system restore option also does not work. It seems that at default settings, KIS 2011 is not better than KIS 2010:(

Assuming Languy made the tests like his previous ones, if he would've ran KIS in Interactive Mode (unchecked "Select action automatically" on General settings) or used the Sandbox nothing would've got through KIS. ;)

Automatic mode could sure be improved, but I don't really mind these tests when I can make KIS almost unpenetrable by unchecking one checkbox in the settings (assuming one answers the few HIPS prompts correctly).

I'm quite sure KIS won't fail in various testing organizations' dynamic tests later in the year, and those tell much more than downloading and executing a few samples in a youtube video.

I don't have time to watch those videos at the moment though.
