ok, you know how you have to set the affinity on spybot to 0, or the computer locks up (with pentium HT technology chip) when scanning

well, when i surf the net or am playing tiger woods golf, or just whenever....my computer will lock up on me.. i am wondering if this is HT related

    suggestions greatly appreciated

    Hi
This can be soft/hardware issue. need more info like, what is the speed of your HT processor, how often this thing happen, when its started .
    BUT FIRST
Check heat (temperature) of the processor. Usually HT cpu throttle it self automatically (i.e reduce speed) when it reach 60+ Celsius. I think this is what happening in your case. Try to open the CPU case and use a normal fan directed toward the inside of the CPU then play the game. See any difference now.

    3.0GHz sound like heat problem.
1-blow the dust (cleanthe inside of cpu)

2-download speedfan (to check the heat) if it is not compatible with your system then check temp by accessing the BIOS and look4 it there.

    3-scan for possible spyware/malware/trojans/worms/viruses etc.

Speedfan is not configured correctly. I can see CPU temp is 50C: What is it during the game (while playing). if your system is spyware free and no hardware compatibilty issue then HEAT is your problem. REDUCE CPU HEAT: IT DOESN'T LIKE TO BE HOT

Its not like its manual but I'll help you to do it. also you need to read the manual as well. See when an HT processors (3+ GHz) becomes hot its speed goes down to as low as my 10 years old puter(200Hz) I know you don’t believe me BUT its the TRUTH that happened to me. back to speed fan
1- is it running on start-up then
open it > tick automatic fan speed > configure> tick start minimizes and tick minimize on close then UNTICK set fans to 100% on program exit then click OK
2-howmany fan with auto sensor The fast way> open the case>open speedfan>put your fingure on the CPU and at the same time watch speedfan>the one that shows ZERO speed(rotation)in the left panel is the CPU fan>rename it do the same for other fans. to see which temp is the CPU one Hold the CPU fan for few seconds and watch the rising-up temperature that one is the CPU temp.Rename it.

clean it up by unticking the unnecessary or dead entries
here is mine P4 HT 3.2GHz

click configure tab then tick/untick (see pic)

to rename click label then the entry (cpu in pic)

To rename click label then the entry see pic. Do not set max value to 100%
to ensure that fan(s) wont spin above its factory default. Set min value above 0%
to make sure that fan(s) wont stop completely.
You can configure the´rest to suit your settings/hardware in a similar way

    final result
