Is Kaspersky AV (KAV) freeware?
From my understanding, never has been. I've purchased it year after year for almost the past 10 years.
The Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool is free, updated a number of times a day, but must be downloaded again to receive new definitions. Can do a full scan of your system (detect/remove).
What is the difference between the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, and KAV?
No real time protection.
The AVP tool however, is great to use as a backup scan, say when using a free AV (avast, avira, pc tools).
But if you buy the Kaspersky AV, you're getting (from the website):
Is it worth the cash? Yes. Less if you buy 3 licenses.
I am getting a new PC. I want KAV but I don't have credit and debit. Thank you for the info.
If you want other ideas, check 'what is your security setup' thread.
You'll see what others are using.
KIS has everything you need, but it slowed down my system a bit due to it checking every new file and processing it through heuristics and hips.
There are more than enough free options php111, look up Antivir or Avast
Not free as we know it but if you do online banking it maybe.
Here in the UK my Bank gives out free licenses for KIS ( for 3 computers ) to their online customers.
You may buy it through a friend/relative that has a credit/debit card. It's definitely worth the money.
if you live in the uk you could buy it in whsmith,pc world or tesco.
I think it was freeware when aol had it a while back. That was a really good AV. Then AOL cut them or KAV quit. That was a very sad day for the freebie security people.
Barclays Online offer a free 3 user 1-year license to KIS2009 to all of its customers.
Thats a sweet deal for those in the UK whose banks give them KIS9 free. Wish the US banks would.
Well i live in Canada but left my UK account open so i just thought why not since its free .
