I have several VMs. Each VM has 8 gb of virtual HDD space. I think 8 gb is excessive. Could I readjust the virtual HDD space to less than 8 gb? 5 to 6 gig sized virtual HdDs is much better because I'm running out of HDD space.

Are you using fixed-size or dynamic virtual hard disks?

Plus, which program and host OS are you using for your virtual machines?

VirtualBox procedure is usually clean/uninstall, defrag and move to beginning of disk (for Windows), zero out free space, and "VBoxManage modifyhd my.vdi –compact".

    dynamic virtual hard disks

that's what I'm using. I'm trying to reduce each of my VMs down to under 4 gbs so that they can fit within the hidden volumes of one of external encrypted drives (the file format for hidden volumes prevents files over 4gb from being stored and several of my VMs are over 4gb so I cannot store them in the hidden volume of external encrypted drive).

I'm trying to move my VM images to the hidden volume of my external encrypted drives because i want to nuke my hidden o/s so that I can maximize the 700 gb of HDD space of my computer, rather be stuck with only 300 gb of space of the hidden OS (realizing that I have no use for the decoy o/s).

I have a fixed size virtual HDD and I need more space on it. How to?

I'm not sure that's doable. It's certainly not trivial.

You could just add a second virtual HDD.
