In Free version used for scanning purposes: -
    Install background guard
    Install scan via context menu

...is there some way to turn 'em off once the program is installed and operating? Or does it need to be uninstalled and reinstalled unchecking these options?

My surfing etc. has slowed considerably since that they were enabled...and overall performance seems to be suffering as well.
So I would dearly love to disable the pair.

Unfortunately, unticking or even removing them from the StartUp list does nothing. They just re-establish themselves each boot up.

    'Preciate any suggestions.

Once the guard has been installed, it can be removed the same way it has been installed, the links will turn in to "Remove guard" etc.
Also, in the free version, there is no guard and the guard does not slow down your internet connection, however, it may slow the start of some programs...
