Infected with hard drive encrypting trojan

    If you know where you downloaded the trojan from then you won't do it again. You gain awareness of how to prevent future infections from happening. And that's the most valuable lesson of all.

    Windows Restore is not as effective. A third party restore tool works much better since it can perform a restore before Windows boots up. Windows Restore can't.

    CL encrypts any mapped partition that it can read. Back up all your critical files to an unmapped cloud server or better yet, save the data to hard copies offline - that you absolutely cannot afford to lose! The most important rule is to NEVER download any file that you weren't expecting to receive in the first place.

    Yes it can, if you press F8 when booting and then select Repair, or if you boot from the Windows DVD.

    However 3rd party tools will do a more comprehensive restore no doubt, just because of the way they work.

    Well tested webroot against cryptolocker again and the video is to big to load up to a file sharing program because my internet is to slow sorry. But I can test against virut, Sality, and expiro if you guys want.
