    Hi:
    I know this isn't secuity but I'm starting a hobby to reseach my family tree and I thought someone might know where to compare the software available

    I'm not sure about a software review but, are you familiar with this site? It might be a starting place for you.

    One of my sisters is very interested in our family tree, and has done extensive research in that regard.
    She uses a program, Family Tree Maker, and seems to be satisfied with it.

    Legacy is by far the best one hands down, even the free version. It is all I use now and I have used plenty of them both free and paid versions. My family tree is traced back to the 1600's currently.

    Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up going with RootsMagic.

    It has a much better interface and allows ranges of birth dates etc rather than forcing you to enter one firm date when you are unsure.
