    Hi

I'm looking to get a spyware remover

i use kaspersky and spybot on my pc xp

i got a browser hijack changing my start page today really annoying

and i am having a few silly crashes

i used Spyware doctor before and it worked a treat a took all the "barnacles off my PC" which was great.....................then it started taking hours to boot and Spyware doctor stopped my pc working all together. I uninstalled spyware doctor and all worked again
they gave me my money back in the end 200 emails later.

that was a different Pc ........so i shy-ed away from using one on this PC.

but now I'm looking for a good spyware malware cleaner

is Webroot Spy Sweeper any good

Can you guys recommend one :)

you should think about your general security.
although mbam is good it cannot do magic.

    hi

    i use kaspersky

and spybot - it has a resident program running called something

    what more can i do

should i use malware bytes instead of spybot?

is it wise to use too many anti spyware programs at once
like its best to have only one firewall, is it best to have only one resident malware program

what kind of setup is good

i like kaspesky, norton let me down before

    any advice welcome

    What is your OS?

Use common sense. Install only software from trusted and legit sources ONLY. Don,t visit dark sides of net. You have kaspersky, use its HIPS and software restriction grouops( I suppose AV also has it, not just the suite). Kaspersky is enoiugh as your real time scanner. Get riid of spybot. Use MBAM as on-demand scanner.

You can add one or more of three things.

    - A sandbox like Sandboxie, DefenceWal or GesWall
    - ThreatFire
    - A HIPS like OA, CFP, MD etc( needs much learning though).

I would have told you to get rid of Spybot too, until it found 19 issues that SAS and MBAM missed.....:ouch:

MBAM free on-demand scanner should take care of any malware that you currently have. If I get an infection on my pc, I'll also run SuperAntiSpyware just to make sure that any nasties have been eliminated but it's usually not necessary as MBAM is very thorough.

You may also consider Hitman Pro 3.5. :thumb:

For realtime protection more then 1 would b unwise. I suggest u use 1 realtime and 1 on demand. Options: Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, a-squared

are all these solutions better than spybot SD resident?

I ran malwarebytes and it remove about 3 things that sypbot missed. so not too bad. and it seemed pretty good.

a-squared Anti-Malware 4.5 and online armour looks a bit pricey,

I would like resident protection but i did have problems with spyware doctor before. spyware doctor made my pc take ages to boot after about 1 week. i had to uninstall it, and ask for my money back.

if i remove spybot which is the best to replace it with?

Mbam's realtime protection is alot better than ad aware IMO.

    Without a doubt

It is better then it seemed :p I think alotta ppl on these boards would vouch for it ;)

They r but surely worth every penny.

That app has never been a favorite on here

If your looking to go cheap n solid either MBAM or SAS but i believe MBAM would get the most votes on here right now.

Malwarebytes is definately good stuff; But Prevx would be a better solution for your situation, especially for XP.
Prevx offers top notch malware prevention. If anything does get through, Prexhelp, or other Prevx peeps, will look into your system to get what the Prevx tool missed.
You can't beat the service provided by Prevx.

Using Malwarebytes, Prevx and a good Firewall/HIPS, together is like having head to toe Dragon Skin while in Iraq walking down the road.

PC Tools will be giving away a free product on tonight's release on GAOTD. No final word on which product will be released but I suppose there's a chance it could be SpywareDoctor.
