IE Auto Launch

    Can someone help me in locating the process or exploit being used that causes IE to automatically launch? When computer is idle, IE will launch and go to several 'AD' sites. When I am browsing, IE will automatically go to another site. I've had the Hijack log checked and no problems were found. This was on a friend's computer, and I ultimately had to use a hosts file to stop this but I am trying to find out is there is a registry setting that would have revealed how this was being done. THanks.
