I fully agree with Mrkvonic here about the current trend for bloated program. Granted we have the luxury of quad core CPUs and 4GB memory as norm but even then, I would rather have all those resources devoted to the actual use of the program rather than the program itself. Today's software have become behemoths and most of the time they collapse under their own weight.

    Hi,

IMO, today's bloated programs are the result of

market share competition and unwanted consumer's demands.

Software Dev has brilliant R/D brains on staff, under pressure they have to come up with something to justify pay raises/bonus sharing. Since they can not make the product getting taller, then might as well just increase its waistline to accommodate the scheduled press release.

AFAIK, both Nero Micro and Nero Lite break Nero's EULA.

    Hello,
1.6GB for a cd-dvd burning software? Sounds like an April's fool joke ...
    What's next, 7TB text editor?

i wonder if any remember but 20 years ago they did the impossible and squeezed so much code into 8bit 32k computers. peter scott achieved squeezing the game sim city of 512k into just 20k!

Nero isn't burning software anymore. It's a full multimedia suite which includes:
    - Burning.
    - Ripping.
    - Transcoding.
    - Media editing.
    - Media Player.
    - Back up.
    And so on.

    Hi,

Cyberlink power2go 6 is an alternative to any other similar products, and perhaps superior to them.

    Worth the exploring.

Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 is 595MB without the Content installed, which needs a further 800MB ;)

well as mentioned roxio is just as big as nero if not bigger so no go there.

maybe ill try the cyberlink one or maybe nti?? tried the burnaware for some audio cd's and it seemed to write the titles but they will not show up on any cd player i try the discs in.. this is def a deal breaker for burning audio files for me i HAVE to (well ok want) the titles and track names on the discs.

I guess it depends on the country... in the UK you can make any modifications for personal use, as long you are do not redistribution the modified files - in the UK you have a given right to do anything with the files on your own machine, which no EULA can override.
The tool that does the modifications is perfectly legal as well as along as they are not packaged together with the main app, this is why cracks and keygens tools are still perfectly legal and cannot be taken off the internet.

Slysoft tools (dont forget the lifetime upgrades), anydvd, clone cd and clone dvd for copying cds and movies. UltraISO creating ISOs (including music CDs) and ripping my Xbox games to hdd, Media monkey for ripping my CD (uses the excelent LAME).

Nero has become an all in one tool, too many features, master of non, just like Norton Utilities.
