normally if you login to gmail the password is past through https, then it goes back to http when you're logged in. but, if you put this into the address bar - https://mail.google.com/ then login the whole session stays https
Hi iceni60 Or used the Firefox extension Customize Google and check the option to always used an Https connection... But, IMHO, the best is to used Gmail with an email client: the connections are always encrypted throught SSL/TLS. With Thunderbid it is: 995 Pop3S for pop.gmail.com and 587 SMTP TLS for smtp.gmail.com ... One problem remaining: what Google's BoyZ are doing with the email content? The best is to encrypt the email itself with GnuPg + Enigmail. No?
C'est vrai I heartily agree that the best way to encrypt e-mail is through using GnuPg, but I use slypheed instead of thunderbird so I don't have engimail (slypeed has a built in plugin for encryption with gnupg) Alphalutra1
i don't like google at all and use their stuff infrequently, apart from the search engine, but i use that either with my google anonymising bookmarket, or scroogle, both with opera.
Hi iceni60 By Jove! Searching is the main business of Google indeed ! But You are, Milady, interested to encrypt the email service you dislike ... It's a kind of British humour I presume.
i've got it bookmarked on my toolbar i just made a new keypair for thunderbird, so i use that mainly.
