I've been using spywareblaster for some time & have recently been experimenting with Hostsman & related hosts lists.

Am I needlessly duplicating protection or is hosts file management & spywareblaster each serving a separate purpose?

    Thanks

Spyware Blaster doesn't set any Hosts file entries - so the two are different types of protection. I use both - my Hosts list is provided by Spybot S&D - which seems to play well with Spyware Blaster.

Note: Large Hosts files (4000+ entries) can cause slowdowns on XP during the DNS lookup phase - recommended fix is to disable the DNS Client Service - which despite its description is just a caching service and is not required. I have not tested this on Vista yet - anyone confirm?
