    Dear Fine Folks at Wilders -
    Please look over the following log to help me remove the hijack browser that has invaded my system (searchxl)... This is the first time I have had one that comes on after a period of start ups ... guess it is timed to do that ... :oops: please forgive my ignorance :doubt: ... there is so much to learn ...     Welcome to Wilders.

    Before you start, please unzip or move HijackThis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder it's in. These easily get lost in a temporary folder or a folder with other programs.

    Check the following items in HijackThis.
    Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    Download CWShredder and run. Be sure ALL other windows are closed and use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

    Then reboot into safe mode, and zip the following files before deletion and e-mail them to Pieter at the address in his profile. Please include a link to this thread.

    C:/WINDOWS/system.reg

    Then delete the following file:

    C:/WINDOWS/system.reg

    Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    OK ... I fixed the items you posted on the HiJackThis scan ... and I downloaded CWShredder and followed the instructions ... but after that ... you lost me ... where do i find C:/Windows/system.reg .. I looked but couldn't find it ... :doubt: ... What is my next step?
