hard drive and files

    what are the ways that a hard drive will lose your files and will it alert in any-way? i know heat is one way or virus's but are there others?

    check periodically event viewer logs for errors as any hd errors will appear in there

    Periodically check S.M.A.R.T. data with software such as CrystalDiskInfo.

    can you lose files from your external harddrive just by alot of activity. Rapid activity
