    Hi

Don't know which thread to use but hopefully if this is incorrect, someone can possible redirect me accordingly.

I use Vista Home Premium, IE8. This is for info in case it makes any difference

I am just getting to the end of my tether trying to sort a problem which has been bugging me for weeks.

When I type a question in the google search area, I immediately begin to see suggestions which I don't particularly want. However I click on preferences and at the bottom can be seen querry suggestions. I then click on the radio button do not provide querry suggestions in the search box, and then save.

There are times when this works but on numerous occasions when I close and restart PC I am back to square one, especially when I use google search
    in IE.
Can anyone help to put an end to my mysery. Hep appreciated.

    Tks

    HI GlobalForce

Your response appreciated. Have since did an intensive search and came up with the following which appears to have done the trick. Upon completion both in IE and MozillaFirefox, restarted PC which I usually do after any changes, this annoying occurence does not take place

    quote

    Firefox:
    Tools -> Options -> Privacy
Uncheck 'Remember what I enter in forms.......'

    Internet explorer:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Content Tab
    Click Auto Complete/Settings
    Uncheck Forms

    unquote

    Keeping fingers crossed

    In IE8......

    Tools > Manage Add-ons > Search Providers > Highlight "Google" > right-click > select DISABLE SUGGESTIONS

    Hi Birdman

Just out of interest, does the above stick for you?

I initially tried this [IE7/IE8] and after closing/re-opening the drop-down suggestions kept reappearing.

Resetting to the url quoted that I found on another forum solved it permanently.

    Hi philby,

Yes it's 'sticking' for me. The "suggestions" no longer appear for me. The only items that appear is my most recent history, not what I searched through Google. I'd like to turn this feature OFF as well, but it appears that there's no option for this.

    Re. recent history

Haven't tried this yet, but does 'InPrivate' setting prevent history from showing in address bar during a session?

Or does this only work for when you close and re-open IE8?

that stuff is probably kept in cookies, if you use session cookies or delete your cookies, or use a browser addon like customisegoogle your preferences can be lost.

there are ways to change the way google's pages work. i'm not familiar with IE, but there are probably addons or user.js scripts, or bookmarklets, or an http proxy that can change the way google works.

i.e. here's the last script i tried, there's screenshots on the page. i don't know if these work with IE though!

This is not an IE8 feature. What you're seeing are Google's own search suggestions which can be turned off in Google preferences, or, if you block the Google cookie, by using the webhp?complete=0 option as noted above.
