I got the feeling that gedit took a bit of time opening, considering that it is "only" a text editor. Mousepad opened quickly. I saw that I had five plug-ins enabled: Document Statistics File Browser Pane Insert Date/Time Modelines Spell Checker I have disabled them and gedit's start-up now seems faster.
