Would anyone know of a free character map replacement for Windows XP? There are some things about the native one I'm beginning to find extremely irritating.

First, when you click a character, it enlarges so you can't see the characters around it, you have to click another character in a different area if you want to see them.

Second, you have to "select" a character before you can copy it.

Third, the selection box copies whatever's in it. So if you only want to do one character at a time, you have to clear it every time you pick a new character.

If you're copying a lot of special characters this can get very time consuming and tedious. I'd like to find one that doesn't work like the Windows CM and avoid the above hassles. Any ideas?

I tried ExtendedCharacterMap and BabelMap and they're both like the Windows CM in that you have to first select before you can copy, then you have to clear the selection window each time or it copies everything that's in it. Ideally I'm looking for something you can just click and copy, either in one or two steps, and bypass "select" altogether.

I also tried the ALT Codes.pdf and it's pretty handy but doesn't have nearly enough codes for what I need.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone's got any others, keep 'em comin'. :)
