And when I finish playing the online server game, I can just enable avast again and avast will run properly without a need for reboot?

If you want the b### free get Avast. If you want the b### paid get Avira. It really is that simple.

If you want to wait, get Prevx 4. Those 3 products will dominate the security market for the remainder of the year.

I was told once by a few people that its not MALWARE, it's VIRUS.

I once asked if I can just use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and nothing else, and people told me that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware alone will not be enough and that I also need to install an AV program.

DONT INSTALL AVAST. It crashed my whole windows and gave me a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH,,, and I have NEVER had a BSOD before.

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 3081

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 1000008e
    BCP1: C0000005
    BCP2: 00000000
    BCP3: B8E79CC0
    BCP4: 00000000
    OS Version: 6_0_6002
    Service Pack: 2_0
    Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini050711-01.dmp
    C:\Users\lisa\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-68952-0.sysdata.xml
    C:\Users\mozart\AppData\Local\Temp\WER80E2.tmp.version.txt

And then when I did a reboot, Windows wouldn't load :( avast has destroyed something in Windows and I need to resintall windows now :*(

It looks like I am not the only one who got a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH installing avast, e.g: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=77407.0

NO WAY! I am never going to try that again. Windows won't even load now either, complaining about some system files not working properly.

I will try Avira but never avast again.:thumbd:

I looked on google and there's heaps of people who also got the blue screen of death installing avast.

It shocked me when it happened to me because I have never had a blue screen of death before. SO avast, get's a big thumbs down from me! :thumbd:

You may want to look into an imaging solution for when something like this happens again, much easier and quicker then reinstalling windows.

Avira is a very good AV, IMO.

@TheMozart: What did you expect, using a pre-release version.

Antivir is quite good too, but its slower than Avast. On bootup it slows things down for 1-2 minutes while it sets up/updates and file scans take 10x longer. I would try the latest version of Avast 5 from the website I linked. I'm running it on 2 computer's now, definitely no BSOD and it has great features like gaming mode, 'persistent cache scan' (scan now, settings) to speed up whole HD scans. Both AV's are very good, I just like Avast better, I'll update to 6 when its officially final.

When I asked about this, someone said to download this version:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/

    Nothing says it's a pre-release version!!o_O:blink:

So Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0.1091 is a pre-release version?

What's your criteria for officially final? As far as AVAST Software (the official company) is concerned, it is final.

@TheMozart: That is the latest stable version. I thought you had problems with pre-release, since you posted in this thread.
Also it's a better idea to download from the official website, because third-party sites can make mistakes (ex: hosting KMPlayer malware version).

Most people are doing fine with the version you downloaded. Yesterday a new updated version 6.0.1119 was released. Personally I won't install any v6 until its FINAL. (no problems for a month or so) The version I'd recommend to get is v5.1.889, which was the latest version 5 and was stable and runs wonderfully. v6 was released to the public too soon before all problems were worked out and they're trying to work them out now with these new version releases.

    version 5.1.889
