Im currently behind a router and using windows xp sp2. Can anyone recommend a light firewall free or paid that will provide outbound protection? I have quite a good knowledge of creating rules etc so that wont be a problem.

    Hello,
Light ones but not necessarily easy-to-configure ones:
Sygate, Kerio 2.1.5, Jetico, LnS, CHX...

I would say all application based firewall : Online Armor ( you can by default settings allow automatically network access to a trusted prog), Zone Alarm, Kerio 2 & 4, nearly all firewall integrated in a Security suite.

    Hello,
Sygate, Kerio are easy to configure - relatively.
Kerio 2.1.5 is the good ole workhorse. Kerio 4 is the new version ... So, the choice is entirely yours.

Cheers mate. Ive decided on Outpost Pro 2008 for one machine and Look n Stop with Phantom's ruleset for my machine.
