It's a feature! No doubt there'll be a flood of workarounds in a few hours.

The second may require a bit of userChrome.css tweaking to make it vanish. Let's see. Ubuntu isn't offering v8 as yet.

For the record the release that was put up on the FTP site a couple of days before the official announcement and was also posted on Majorgeeks.com proved (yet again) to be the "final".

I put Fx 8 on two Win PCs but don't see Twitter in the search bar. It's there in the drop-down menu and can easily be removed as pointed out already.

I skipped 8 and installed 9.0 beta 1, which seems to be the same, except that it is faster.

Yes. No UI major changes are being introduced in v9. One major change is the introduction of TI, which makes JS engine faster.

Hopefully Firefox 9 really starts pushing the Javascript performance boundaries and forces Chrome to get back in the game. Chrome's been resting on its laurels so to speak and that's worked out since nothing's compared to even Chrome v10's speed (crankshift) but now that FF 4.0 and its successors are making such significant improvements it's only a matter of time before it catches up and surpasses the current Chrome versions.

In any case the differences im javascript performance are that small that they don't really matter anymore. Only in the v8bench score Chrome is still faster.

Yeah, I can live with Firefox being a gazilionth of a nanosecond slower than Chrome. ;)

Oh, definitely. I've said myself that the differences in speed for both browsers are really small now in almost any situations (that's why V8 is the one that shows the biggest difference, it has some of the heaviest stuff - like emulating OS kernels lol.)

Doesn't mean that any browser should stagnate. Especially with how the web is constantly getting heavier and heavier.

I'll be happy when Chrome 64bit is out lol I'll be happy with the product for a few months =p

I get the feel v8 starts and runs overall noticeably faster than v7.
    Good first impressions!
