A coalition of federal law enforcement agencies announced a new push against child pornography on file-swapping networks, citing undercover operations ongoing since the fall of 2003.

More than 65 people have been arrested as a result of more than 350 searches of computers and computer equipment, the agencies said Friday. Popular file-swapping companies quickly chimed in, saying they had supported the investigation, which was code-named Operation Peer Pressure by the FBI.

"No one should be able to avoid prosecution for contributing to the abuse and exploitation of the nation's children," Attorney General John Ashcroft said in a statement. "The Department of Justice stands side-by-side with our partners in the law enforcement community to pursue those who victimize our children under the perceived, but false, cloak of anonymity that the peer-to-peer networks provide."

Now all they need to do is take them to the city hall parking lot and have a public hanging IMO.

Agreed. Absolutely no place for this in the world!

And if it takes Big Brother type Actions, to help prevent these crimes ... so be it! ... any Invasion of Privacy is acceptable to me in this regard.

Dog, That's exactly the kind of response big brother wants to hear. That's the excuse they'll use to invade your privacy. They'll say we just want to check everyone to see if they have any pornography, but what else will they check? Yes child pornography is a serious crime, and should be punished severely, but lets not give anyone an open door invitation to invade our privacy. You may say i have nothing to hide, neither do i, but it would be a great loss if big brother was freely able to check anyones computer anytime they wanted under the guise of checking for pornography.

If there wern't any p2p programs a lot of problems could be eliminated or at least crippled. Not much good comes from p2p networks.

    Hi Watcher, ;)

I wasn't suggesting an all out invasion of privacy (I should have worded the post better) ... the system currently in place ... only allows for this invasion under probable cause ... but the internet ... an net traffic is alot like the old west ... no real laws or guidelines ... it's this lack of balance ... that lets these people ... commit these crimes ... and supply an apparent market (sad as that is) ... :'(

I have no issue with pornography ... what adults do is their right ... be it watch, distrubute, create ... or whatever as long as the parties over 18 and did so of their free will ... it's not my cup of coffee ... but I don't think that it should prevented either ...

but what if it had been child porn

then even if you close the website you still commited a crime cause its in your pc

anything you see on your pc stays there

inless you know how to get rid of it

so think hard on this really hard

i have no love for pedos but at the same time i dont want to go to jail for something some mofo has in his share folder turns out to be something nasty

this like a double edge sword they say there doing a good thing but at the same time makeing it more easyer to abuse there power like riaa

    when does it stop

I have been notified about having to report anything about child porn or national security that I might happen to see on a customers computer at my shop. I don't particularly like it but I don't like child porn either. and I will report any security issues concerning my country.

Unfortunatly in this country our life style has forced our children to grow up to da#n fast and in the process the kind of built in morality the children had thirty or fourty years ago doesn't have as much chance to develope

The bad guys behind all this porn stuff should be prosecuted TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT UNDER THE LAW. A good job the FBI did in cracking down on pornography.

    the maxium isnt enough personaly

lets see for sick people who look at it they should get put on a drug that makes mr.happy mr.sad all the time cant perform

then be ordered toand force threw theropy

as for the ones sexualy assualting the children well words cant describe what really should be done but i think tailand or was it mainland china they have the right ideal

you know this is kinda hard when i think of it deeper

the people who are sick who just look at it and need theorpy do i have the right to judge them

its like judgeing some one for thinking difrently

ive thought of a few people who i feel deserve to die even daydreamed about offing some one who pisst me off should i go to jail for thinking of it?

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i remember when i was 18 and my girlfrinds sister who was 17 was walking around with a double d breasts im not going to lie but i thought omg she stacked i couldnt help but look i guess im technically a crimanal looking at my older girlfinds youngher sister.

then this who thing gets to telling people what they cant or can think or see

yeah pedo rapist should be well you know i cant say it but we all think they should be yeah

but should the sickminded also fall into that catgory

I would have to agree with TheWatcher here - tracking and punishing wrongdoers is one thing, spying on everyone regardless of their activity is another. What ever happened to the principle of "innocent until proven guilty"? Have people forgotten so quickly that the FBI abused its powers in the past?

At the risk of sounding controversial, what is it about child pornography that makes otherwise sane and sensible people throw everything they know about justice and punishment out the window? Serial killers, organised crime bosses and people traffickers are arguably responsible for more human suffering yet no-one advocates the same sort of "Big Brother" solution for them!

Finally, do bear in mind that many child abusers were previously abused themselves - this makes the crime more serious since it can become self-perpetuating but at the same time shows that treatment needs to be included in any sentencing - not the "hang 'em high" approach that some seem to favour here...

The sad thing is the Powers That Be KNOW what buttons to push to make people look the other way, when what PTB REALLY "wants controlled" stays undercover. So, people wanting to do the right thing by children or whatever the agenda, say, "Da*m right, you can do and look and read ANYTHING you want if it will stop these "mofos" and their sick ideas!" The next thing they know some relative is arrested for writing "treasonous" papers against the PTB, or maybe some scientist got more involved with stem cells than "was agreed". First of all, what they are doing will NEVER STOP child porn or any nefarious deed, it will go back underground, like it has for CENTURIES!!! Same with any profitable "business", and the truly caring good people will bear the pain of knowing they GAVE their freedom away. Wish I knew the answer, but, it won't be laws that slow this down, it will have to come from a deeper place in ourselves and a belief iin a higher power than Powers That Be. My two cents:'(
