I'm using 3.6.5 from the mozilla-daily ppa, and it feels considerably faster than 3.6.3. And a few days ago I set html5.enable to "true" in about:config, and I have the impression that this adds some more speed.

  2. Faster as in rendering speed, or as in responsiveness? My problem with Firefox has always been less its rendering speed on Linux (though that is a bit slow) than its amazing ability to chew up RAM and CPU cycles, and even disk I/O (when it goes into one of its max CPU time fits).
