I have recently switched my wifes Windows XP AV solution from Kaspersky to ESET V4 and appear to have made a grave mistake. After being a long time NOD32 user (upto V3) I switched to Kaspersky to give it a try. Good product but a bit hungrier on resources. So the license came up for renewal last week and I switched back.

My wife reported that Internet browsing appeared to get slower and slower, so after a irate call at work, I talked her through disabling AV/AS and network checking. Fired up FF and checked a couple of website; still *SO* slow. In the end I got her to un-install ESET V4 and low and behold the speedy browsing experience is back again.

What has happened in V4 ? Is this just a case of disabling IMON ? if so then that rather defeats the object of having it within a security suite. Should I go back to Kaspersky ?

    TIA

Have you already contacted customer care and provided them a log from SysInspector which would show the applications you have installed and might interfere with v4 somehow? It might also reveal KAV leftovers that might interfere now with the web protection module, causing the browsing performance to slow down. Can you confirm that disabling HTTP checking in the main setup makes a difference?

I also found my PC ran slower and slower after trying the Kaspersky Online Scanner (KOS) with NOD32 installed. About 9 months later i stumbled on a webpage that details how uninstalling the KOS leaves a DLL installed and registered which means KOS is still effectively working on your PC.

With a single command to un-regsiter the DLL and a reboot the PC was back to full speed.

I'll see if i can find the page..... (it was a one in a million find though...)

Possible the file was called kavwebscan.dll

Kaspersky, like other antivirus companies, has an uninstall tool you can use to make sure it is completely removed from your system.

    Hello uxbod,

This sounds like the type of thing where previous antivirus is the culprit. I would try running the uninstaller from Kaspersky and then reinstalling ESET.
