Thanks as always Patrick for stepping up with some answers on this new one from Tony. I only just stumbled on this thread and app so hope that it eventually pans out just as well.
i can't manage to make it hide my chosen folders from explorer; so i will just stick with SecureFolders
Yeah I much as we all would like to see something on the order of the lockdown and selected choices where to do what and forget it, I will stay with Secure Folders as well. It still performs when and where needed most in spite of being abandoned now.
Just install it , add a folder to "protect" (FYI, i chose a folder in another partition) , then close EFL, try finding the said folder via explorer; you will still see it. im on Win10 x64 home.
Ahhhh, I'm on Win7HP x64... I've got a folder on D drive, with only Visible ticked. Explorer is not in the list of exception applications I try to access the folder in Explorer, and I cannot, even after I input Admin password. I can see it, but that is all. Maybe it's a Win10 issue?
Probably it's W10 issue but I'm not sure...alter you tick off one of boxes (enabling protection) you have to push button OK and wait for refreshing new atributes. On my Vista it always work.
@guest - came across this while looking at a thread on MT about Windows Services. I'm not sure if it will be strong enough, but I know you like to tinker, so there it is...
updated to 2.2 Easy File Locker 2 32bit new option are that you can allow exception program per file folder with check box
Something's wrong with this new version. Well maybe. After upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 now one of my exception applications is not able to write to the disk.
So is this program not worth considering for protection against ransomware? e.g. Documents, Music, Picture, etc. Do some/most ransomwares read/write the disk data directly? What does Secure Folders offer that EFL doesn't, especially now that 2.2 has an applications per folder option?
I tested Secure Folders against couple of Ransomware (read-only options) and it protect files with no problems. You can check video about that on my Youtube channal.
Alright but your answer implies EFL doesn't perform as SF? Btw, thank you for testing ransomware against SF.
SyncBackFree is set as Exclusion Application. It was working fine on v2.1 but yesterday I upgraded directly without uninstall v2.1 and now SyncBackFree can't write to my protected disk (UFD). Silent one didn't work either.
It certainly is. With version 2.2, I just cannot enable the exception applications. Consequently, these applications do not have access to my protected files and folders any more. Going back to version 2.1 for the time being. I might also go back to Secure Folders, which has always worked well even though this program has long been abandoned. OS: Windows 10 Home Premium 32-bit
